Gas fireplace pilot light on but won t ignite. My gas log fireplace worked just fine last winter but i couldnt light the pilot light this fall. If the logs light and stay lit that proves that you have a supply of fuel and that the jets in the fire logs are not plugged by carbon build up. I have a 1997 vintage heat n glo model 6000 xls natural gas fireplace.

If your pilot light ignites but wont stay lit then the problem is most likely related to your thermocouple a metal sensor about the size and shape of a sharpened pencil that heats up by direct contact with the pilot lights flame telling your gas valve that the pilot light is lit so its safe to open the valve to let gas flow. Most gas fireplaces have a standing pilot light which is a small flame that burns even when you arent using the fireplace. The remote has new batteries so that doesnt seem to be the problem.
I have a heat n glo gas fireplace. Theres no brand name on the log so i dont know where or who to call for instructions. This makes the fireplace easy to start when its cold outside but when it warms up its a good idea to shut off the pilot to conserve gas.
