Covering brick fireplace with tile. Keep setting tiles until you reach the top of the surround. Close in a floor to ceiling brick fireplace by installing sheetrock. In many cases skim coating the existing brick with thinset will create a strong smooth surface for tile installation.
Place tile spacers around the tiles and add thinset as you go. Covering up the brick with a more modern material such as marble tile can transform the fireplace surround and help it fit in better with more modern furnishings. Cover the hearth with a drop cloth and remove the mantel and anything else thats attached to the brick. Choose from ceramic tile or natural stone tile like marble granite or slate. For me it was frame the wood tile over brick paint then grout.
